(The Return of) Writers' Boot Camp

At Writers' Boot Camp, you'll be surprised how quickly writing in groups will fill your notebook with inspired ideas, sketches and stories. This 10-week session will help writers of all levels get in touch with their unique voice, expand their craft, and banish the fear of a blank page. Following the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method, Writers' Boot Camp provides a safe, non-critical environment to create and share your work.

It's been a year since this workshop was offered. A year! Which is absolutely shocking to me, because for the longest while it was the only workshop I offered. For first time and returning writers alike, I look forward to slipping on the dog tags with you one more time.

The Manuscript Club
7:00pm – 9:45pm | 10 weeks | Thursdays | April 19 2012 - June 21 2012 | $475 + HST

Go from 'prompt' to 'published' in 10 weeks.

The Manuscript Club invites writers of all levels to write, share and critique new work in a supportive group setting. As writers, readers and editors, we will work together to create issue #3 of Sterling, Start Writing's literary journal.

During the first few weeks, the workshop focus will be on writing. Prompt-based exercises will inspire writers to explore prose, poetry and flash fiction in a safe, non-critical environment. As the workshop progresses, we will begin revising select pieces as manuscripts for more balanced feedback. We will also make editorial decisions about the theme and direction of the journal.

At least one manuscript from each participant will be featured in Sterling #3, and everyone gets five copies of the journal upon publication.

THE NOVEL

Would-be authors and long form veterans are invited to join THE NOVEL. Instead of tackling a novel in its entirety, we will break this seemingly impossible task into smaller creative writing exercises that will breath life into plots, scenes and dialog. This process will give you the freedom to sharpen your characters, organize your thoughts, and transfer stories from your head to paper in a no pressure, no homework environment.

At one time or another, we’ve all thought, “one day I’ll write a novel”. Whether you're just getting started or are looking to build on previous work, THE NOVEL is the perfect place to make that "one day" today.
